Reduce the costs of workplace injuries!

First aid exercises
- are used to reduce back pain, when it happens.
The primary goal is to identify some form of movement or activity that
can reduce the pain in the lower back. This helps not only to control
the pain, but also reduces the fear of movement that often accompanies
a back injury. The exercise shown is called "the press-up" and, done
has properly, been shown to be useful for many people.

Strengthening exercises - the "abdominal curl" shown has
been used for many years in an attempt to strengthen the
abdominal muscles. This was one of Williams Flexion Exercises,
a series of low back exercises that were popular for many years.
A modification of this exercise is currently used in "core" strengthening.

Stretching exercises - many individuals find that stretching exercises can improve
their overall condition, including reducing back pain. The exercise shown at the left is
designed to stretch the hamstrings (the large muscles in the back of the thigh).

Proprioceptive exercises - these exercises improve the way
in which the nervous system uses the muscles to protect the back.
They target the "core" muscles of the body and incorporate devices
such as the "stability ball" shown on the right.

Recent evidence shows that a combination of exercises is
most helpful in combating back pain. For more information
